Screaming Eagles name Brunelle captain

Jonathan Brunelle will be the new captain in Cape Breton, head coach Ron Choules announced today at a media conference at Centre 200.

Brunelle, 20, replaces Morgan Ellis who was recently traded to the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Brunelle was acquired by the Screaming Eagles in the summer from the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

The Boisbriand, Que. native has 14 goals and 45 points in 41 games this season.

Brunelle has strong leadership qualities and was one of the main reasons for being named captain, said Choules in a team press release.

"Jonathan played in a Memorial Cup and understands what it takes to prepare yourself to play at the major junior level. This is important because we have a number of young players…and his experience and the way he carries himself as a person and a player will help in their development."

Sebastien Payette, Stephen Woodworth and Cory MacIntosh were named assistant captains for the rest of the season.
