Canada 3, USA 2 - Summary
Canada completed a perfect 4-0 run in the preliminary round of the World Junior Hockey Championship with a 3-2 victory over Team U.S.A. in the New Years Eve showdown. Mark Stone continued his strong play for Canada with a goal and an assist. Stone now seven goals in the tournament and three short of tying a Team Canada record for most goals in a single tournament. Jaden Schwartz and Brett Connolly added goals in front of 16,647 screaming fans at the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alta.
Scoring for the U.S.A. were Sea Dogs forward Charlie Coyle and team captain Jason Zucker. Goaltender Jack Campbell, playing in his third straight tournament, made 32 saves.
Canada has now secured first place in Pool B and a by into the semi-finals.
Sweden 4 , Russia 3 - Summary
Jaokim Nordstrom scored at 2:44 of overtime to lead Team Sweden to a thrilling 4-3 win over the defending champions Russia. Scoring for Sweden were Oscar Klefbom, Rickard Rakell, Max Frigergand. Sweden will now advance to the semi-finals while Russia must compete in the quarter-finals.
Ignat Zemchenko, Yarolslav Kosov, Ivan Telegin were the goal scorers for Russia last Night.
Finland 4 , Czech Republic 0 - Summary
At Edmonton, Finnish goaltender Sami Aittokallio stopped all 36 shots as Team Finland moved into the quarter-finals with a victory over the Czech Republic.
Alexander Ruuttu, Miro Aaltonen, Joonas Donskoi, Teemu Pulkkinen led the way for Finland last night.
Goaltender Petr Mrazek made 24 saves for the Czechs.
The Czech Republic are set to play Russia on Monday.
Slovakia 6 , Switzerland 4 - Summary
Matt Chovan had a hat trick as Team Slovakia scored four goals to stun the Swiss and move into the quarter-finals. Tomas Matousek, Martin Marincin and Martin Gernat also scored for the Slovaks while Juraj Sinboch made 24 saves.
Joel Vermin had two goals for the Swiss and Seven Andrighetto and Tanner Richard added goals Saturday night.
