WJC Today - Day 2

Slovakia rejoices after Tomas Jurco's tying goal versus Latvia in the second period.



The World Junior Championships continued yesterday with two games on the schedule. Here are quick summaries of each of yesterday's match-ups.

Czech Republic 7, Denmark 0 - Summary
First off the Czech Republic faced off against Team Denmark. Tomas Hertl scored twice as the Czech Republic opened the World Junior Hockey Championship with a strong 7-0 victory over Denmark.

Baie-Comeau Drakkar forward Tomas Filippi along with Petr Holik, Dmitri Jaskin, Jiri Riha and Radek Faksa added goals for the Czechs. Czech goaltender Petr Mrazek only needed to make 12 saves for the shutout. Tomas Hertl was named player of the game for Czech Republic while goaltender Sebastian Feuk took home the award for Denmark.

The Czech Republic are set to face off against Team Canada today at 8 p.m. at Rexall Place.

Slovakia 3 , Latvia 1 - Summary
Later that night, the Slovaks took on Latvia in Calgary. Saint John Sea Dogs forward Tomas Jurco, Michal Toman and Marek Tvrdon all scored for the Slovakian club in their first game of the tournament.
Juris Ziemins scored the only goal for Team Latvia. Juraj Simboch was Slovakia's Player of the Game while Kristers Gudlevskis was Latvia's Player of the Game.
